Turtle Bay – Reminiscing and menu review.

Hey Guys,

I hope you are all having a lovely week. I’m so happy that it’s only been a 4 day week for me, thank you Bank Holiday, as I had serious back to work blues & now I’m so excited that it’s Friday tomorrow, and tonight I am off out for a special date night with my hubby (mid week treat, yay).

Speaking of date nights, I was able to treat my hubby to a meal at Turtle Bay recently as part of a restaurant review. I have been really lucky to have a few of these opportunities recently, I absolutely love them, as going out for meals is something that I love to do.

I had been to Turtle Bay before, but it was the one on Victoria Street and this time we went to Hanover Street, that’s right guys Liverpool has 2 Turtle Bay’s. I kind of prefer the Hanover St restaurant, it feels slightly more open and feels bigger, when in reality I’m not sure it is.

We both love Turtle Bay though as whenever we go there for food or drinks we always reminisce about our honeymoon. We spent our honeymoon in Jamaica and since we stepped on that plane home we instantly wanted to go back. The food, the people, the beaches, the music, the rum, there wasn’t much that we didn’t like about Jamaica and being able to sit and chat about it over Caribbean food & rum cocktails takes us right back.

This is a beach bar in Jamaica, so you can see how authentic Turtle Bay have been.

So what did we order …

A his & hers set of drinks. Red Stripe & a Frozen Strawberry Daiquiri.

I went for a starter and got the Crispy Chilli Squid. Ste doesn’t eat anything like this so I had this all to myself, it was absolutely delicious but definitely could be shared between 2 as I couldn’t finish it all. Every now and then you get a kick from the chilli’s but then it is cooled by the lovely flavours of the mango, lime & coriander mayo seasonings.

For my main I ordered the Jerk Lamb Rump, don’t worry about the “Jerk” in the title as yes it can be super spicy but this lamb is only marinated in it and then you can choose your flavour of jerk sauce for the dressing, I went for the Pineapple Jerk, a nice fruity taste to offset too much spice that could come through. Instead of having it served with sweet potato mash, I went for spicy fries instead and they were so good.

Ste is not a spice lover, so our waiter Davide (who was lovely and so helpful) pointed out the not to spicy meals on the menu, and he ended up choosing the Mo Bay Chicken, which was very apt as we stayed in Montego Bay in Jamaica. It is usually served with the traditional rices & peas, but he went for sweet potato fries instead. He said it was all delicious and not too spicy but still packed with flavour.

Our array of food was looking pretty impressive.

For dessert Ste ordered the Dark Chocolate Brownie that is served warm, I wasn’t going to have any of it but then it arrived & it smelt amazing so I couldn’t resist, and oh my gosh guys it was blooming delicious. Ste’s actual words were, “the next time I come I’m going to order 4 of them”, it really was that delicious I promise.

It doesn’t look that big a serving here but it’s so rich in chocolate and flavour that it is the perfect size.

After rounding all this food off with a few more drinks we were stuffed. But we sat and soaked up the Caribbean atmosphere for a little while and chatted and reminisced about our Honeymoon more.

I love Turtle Bay and definitely recommend it as a really fun and delicious place to come to for a celebration or casual meal out. The menu (linked below) is really varied and reasonable, and there’s always a great atmosphere inside. Plus, the bar area here is brilliant, you can come in for 2 for 1 cocktails everyday.

Have you been to Turtle Bay before? Do you have a favourite meal or drink from here? If you’re thinking of heading there soon then definitely check out their website for the menu.

Love, Jess

xoxo
